The specific and intentional linguistic techniques employed by a writer to convey, strengthen, and enrich the meaning in literary writing, such as similes, metaphors, personification, characterization and many others.

A pedagogical approach in which students participate in collaborative activities or interactions with a more knowledgeable individual, such as a teacher or peer. During this process, the knowledgeable person offers demonstrations, support, guidance, and input, which are gradually phased out as the students gain independence and can work autonomously.

Craft, structure, and articulate thoughts logically, seamlessly, with inventiveness, and discernment in written and visual forms to create compositions serving a multitude of intentions, readerships, settings, and cultural backgrounds.

Oral Reading and Speaking

To foster 21st-century competencies and a love for learning, the foundation of language acquisition is established from the early primary years through a stronger emphasis on accuracy and fluency in oral communication (listening and speaking skills), with tailored teaching methods for different grade levels.

Encouraging enjoyment in learning the language, while also formally teaching the metalanguage and grammar related to texts. Grammar instruction will be systematic and explicit, starting with word, phrase, and sentence-level grammar, and gradually progressing to text-level grammar from upper primary through secondary levels.

A focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, and early literacy skills from the start of Primary 1, to support the development of reading fluency, comprehension, and viewing strategies across all grade levels.

Ongoing attention to vocabulary development at all stages of learning. An emphasis on interactive, learning-focused activities in both class and group settings.
